Analyzing the Software Engineer Shortage

Founded in 2010, Skyrocket Ventures has grown into a leading provider of recruitment services to clients in the San Francisco Bay Area. Among other key roles, Skyrocket Ventures helps companies recruit software engineers for their teams.

Software engineers are in demand, but companies are struggling more than ever before to find the right people to fill open roles. This is due, in part, to the global talent shortage that is currently affecting organizations in every sector. According to a recent report from Korn Ferry, this shortage will leave 85.2 million jobs vacant by 2030 due to one key factor: a lack of skilled workers.

Unfortunately for many companies, this is also the reason why they are finding it so difficult to find candidates for software engineer positions. As technology continues to advance and broaden in scope, the need for software engineers with increasingly diverse skillsets will only grow – and many job seekers are struggling to keep up.

Technology jobs are also notorious for the length of time it takes to fill them. A 2015 study of Glassdoor data found that the more complex the position, the longer it took to hire. Of all the tech positions that the study analyzed, software engineers took the longest to hire at an average of 35 days.
